Yesterday, a friend of mine said, "Once virtual reality becomes cheaper than dating, mankind is doomed. It made me laugh, but it's not too far from the truth. With society making unreachable ideals for both sexes, satisfaction is harder to find. With virtual reality, people could create their own fantasies, their own idea of perfection. Just a thought to ponder.
Books addressing this issue (Most of these are fantasy):
From Pure Visibility to Virtual Reality-John Adk Richardson
Permutation City-Greg Egan
Virtual Girl-Amy Thompson
Pendragon: The Reality Bug-DJ MacHale
These are the only ones I've read so far, but I plan on pursuing the subject further.
